Camden McLellan finishes ninth in the Grand Prix of Great Britain

Camden McLellan of the JM Racing Honda team finished in the top ten in the final race of the MX2 World Championship in the British Matterley Basin.

On Saturday, McLellan had a very good feeling on the track and looked forward to qualifying with confidence. However, this one started with a setback because at the start he slipped on the mesh and had to start a catch-up race. In the early stages, things went well and he worked his way back up to the top ten. However, during the race he came into contact with another rider in the heat of battle and fell. This meant that he had to settle for fifteenth place. Smulders got his hands on a better and better rhythm during Saturday. However, in the qualifying heat he did not get off to a good start and drove too cautiously in the early stages. Towards the end of the race things started to improve and this gave confidence for the motos on Sunday.

In the first moto, McLellan did not get off to a good start and had to come back to the front from midfield. He worked his way back up to the top ten and had an exciting fight with three other riders. McLellan fought all the way to the finish flag and managed to get an eighth place out of it. Smulders got off to a reasonable start but couldn’t get into his rhythm at the start of the race. He was also just too cautious when overtaking, so he ended up finishing just outside the points with a twenty-first place.

At the start of the second moto, McLellan was a little too eager as he hit the starting gate. This meant that he had to start a catch-up race again from a last place. In the first two laps he did well and came back to fifteenth place. Until the end of the match he had good fights and eventually finished thirteenth. Smulders came back from a twenty-fifth place to an eighteenth position. However, with three laps to go, he hit a rock and fell. This cost him a place in the points and now finished 23rd.

In the day classification, McLellan finished in ninth place and Smulders finished the weekend in twenty-fourth place. Although McLellan had to miss the first six races of the championship due to a shoulder injury, he still finished thirteenth in the final standings of the championship. In two weeks, McLellan will ride for Team South Africa in the MX of Nations.

Due to heavy rainfall, the track circumstances were wet and muddy on Saturday. McLellan was feeling himself at home in these kind of circumstances and posted the fourth fastest time in time practice. In the qualifying heat he took the holeshot and was leading the race till the last lap. He collided with a back marker uphill and crashed. He lost a lot of positions and finally finished the race in thirteenth position. Scott Smulders came home in 24th position.

McLellan didn’t took a good start in the first moto and had a lot of catching up to do. On the fast track in Maggiora it was difficult to make up positions and finally he finished the race in thirteenth position. Smulders crashed twice during the race but his feeling on the bike became better near the end so this gave him confidence for the second moto.

Both riders were taking a better start in the second moto. McLellan was riding in eleventh position for a long time but in the closing stages of the race he managed to pass some riders and finally finished in ninth position. Smulders came close of scoring points as well. The weekend started with a set back for Alfarizi on Saturday. Due to a crash he injured his hand and has a fracture in it. Due to this he was forced to sit out the rest of the weekend.

In the opening moto on Sunday, McLellan was fighting for ninth position till he got a small mechanical problem, which forced him to retire from the race. Camden was motivated to do well in the second moto but this time he became dizzy because of the heat during the race and had to lower the pace. He finally finished the race in twelfth position.

Due to his 0 score in the first moto he finished in thirteenth position overall. After the race in Turkiye he sits in sixteenth position in the championship standings. In two weeks the series continues on the legendary track of Maggiora in Italy.

Camden McLellan seventh in the Dutch Grand Prix

Camden McLellan of the JM Racing Honda team finished seventh overall in the Dutch Grand Prix at Arnhem. McLellan was showing a great speed during the weekend and finished seventh in both motos. Delvintor Alfarizi had his difficulties in the tough conditions and finished in 25th and 24th position in the motos.

Arnhem was a new venue on the calendar. The weekend started promising on Saturday. McLellan set the eighth fastest time in time practice and this was his best result in time practice this season. In the qualifying heat he was doing a great job as well. Unfortunately he got a small problem with his rear brake. He managed to keep the pace high but with two laps to go he had a nasty get off and finally finished the race in thirteenth position. Alfarizi had a good rhythm in the first half of the race but after that he started to make some mistakes and was struggling to keep the pace high. He finally crossed the finish line in 27th position.

Both riders were going for more in the motos on Sunday. McLellan took a good start in the opening moto and had a nice rhythm. After a few laps he started to lower the pace to safe some energy but due to this he started to make some mistakes. McLellan kept fighting and finished the race in seventh position. Alfarizi crashed twice in the opening moto and finally finished the race in 25th position.

McLellan took a less good start in the second moto but started to make passes immediately. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to pass two riders in front of him and this cost him his rhythm a bit. McLellan made a small crash in the middle of the race but came back strong after that and finally finished the race in seventh place. Things were going better for Alfarizi in the first half of the race but the heavy track circumstances were taking its toll and due to this he had to be satisfied with 24th position.
